Children playing and dog walking. Everyday there are people drivings extremely fast. There pretty much is no side walks. I really wish a cop would park on apple street and nab them all.
Good luck getting the KPD to do anything. I suggest contacting the sheriffs department and I'm pretty sure their response would be positive. I've had issue with speeding in my neighborhood and have never seen enforcement happen on the roads that I'm concerned about.
Put out some "children playing" signs, "Keep Kids Alive, Drive 25" signs, Be out there a couple of times by the sign, being a witness. Engage the driver.
It ain't the best answer, but it is something you can do while you're waiting for some better things to happen.
Peace
I also live on snyder, the cars think its a speedway, for such a small amount of road.i agree a cop needs to sit in a driveway and watch, they would make their quota for the year!!!!!!
Does anyone who posted here know what the city speed limit is? It is 30mph do you know what that looks like on a narrow city street, I bet about 90% or if not more are within the legal speed limit. It doesn't matter if you put up Children Playing Signs with a lower speed limit legally it doesn't matter its only a suggested and nonenforcable speed limits. I think before we start throwing around who's not enforcing the law maybe we should take our energy and do our research and determine if cars are illegaly speeding or not.
NY Guest... I understand the speed limit and you are correct... it could look faster to pedestrians. Our street is small. It only has 13 or so houses. Again its small and only one side has street parking and no side walks. People would have to 'gun' it to do 40 mph. So you are right! So I guess I need to focus on the speed limit being changed rather than speeders. I was hit coming out of my driveway today... None the less in a rental car.... I posted over 9 months ago and the problem is still the same. I have never met my alderman from my ward, yet she is trying to run for mayor without a ballot. Go figure! We live in a highly residential area with animals, children, and people tending to their lawns, sidewalks ( that barely exist), and to our storm drains. People drive down our road like it is a open speed way. I am sorry but I am extremely tired of it. Especially...since I was HIT today. Point taken? Considering I posted this over 9 months ago? Oh, guess car insurance has to go up and lets make the police more busier than they already are right!
It's very easy to understand. Puredaja was in the driveway getting ready to leave, cheated te road ad it was clear...for that moment. Someone must have been gunning it again and hit puredaja because a) they were driving way too fast
B) have no regard for the posted speedlimit
C) weren't even considering for one moment that someone actually lives there so couldn't possibly want to come out of their drive
Quite a few simple statements. Assumed of course but probably bang on.
I see this post from 9 months ago for the first time today...my apologies, and with only one post it was not on the radar, I did not recieve notice on this one. However, I can tell you that I met several times with Chief Keller of KPD to discuss speeding problems including along Hurley Ave and Lucas Ave where kids walk to and from school without the safety of sidewalks. Speeding was not a high priority to him much to my frustration. Our new Police Chief Tinte recently came to our Ward 1 meeting and the issue of speeding was brought to his attention and he said that each shift will now be required to do some traffic & safey patrol. (it was not done before) I hope this happens because speeding is an issue everywhere in our City.
If you have chronic problems and want to discuss other measures such as a stop sign or children at play signs call me. Your Alderman is the one who can help with things like that.
Thank you for clarifying KSD parent... @ Confused guest; I did not blame someone else, nor did I give any details. The accident is just more evidence that the street needs to be monitored or possibly the following choices: stop sign in the middle of the street, school flashing light, reduced speed limit, or speed bumps. Blaming someone will not get to the root of the issue. Helping each other and "our" community to solve issues is proactive.

Hi Ms Turco-Levin! Thank you for the information. I understand some posts do fall through the cracks; we are all human. I do appreciate your thoughts and that the new Chief is taking you/us serious. I came off somewhat strong in post because an accident is a serious issue. I also lost a cat of 7 years on this road and although I know my dog is my responsibility and should not get loose ( which he did) and got hit by a speeding car and I am still paying off that bill. Luckily, no children have been hurt ( as of yet). So I do not only have one bad incident but three.

Hi Ms Turco-Levin! Thank you for the information and its good to know the new Chief is taking you/us serious. I understand some posts do fall through the cracks; we are all human. I have not only had 1 problem but three now on the street. I've lived here for all most 2 years and I have lost a cat, my dog got hit ( I know he is my responsibility and should not be loose, he was a puppy and escaped) and now the accident. All three are serious, but the accident is the icing on the cake. I am just thankful no children have been hurt. I have walked with two 1st grade classes from Edson to Micky's igloo and a car scared all 50 + kids because he speed around the corner fast and did NOT slow down.
predaja, yes the situations in this area are really never taken very seriously, at least i have seen on here your alderman does answer, that is a oddity..... you mentioned storm drains, that is a subject that the water dept,,, in kingston and port ewen really dont want to answer or do anything about,,, we all just have to sit back let them collect our tax money for their salaries and be flooded out.... its just one of the problems of this area and the should be addresses situations... good luck to you..... i have lived in this area 15 years, my husband over 45 and it is only getting worse.....
This seems like an old issue that was partially addressed. Unless there is ongoing problems - (which means you should say something here about that) I will close this issue. If you want to keep it open, just report some updated information.
It is an ongoing problem. Nothing has ever been discussed to address it. No cops have done a speed radar on Snyder or parked to witness it, nor has the alderman asked me or the neighborhood to come together to discuss it. There are several cars that come by daily the gun it. I would like to know if a speed bump would be possible? A " Children at Play" sign will not work. A few months ago a Sheriffs van gunned it coming off of Hurley onto Snyder and nipped a garbage can right before the house I was talking in front of. I physically had to jump back because his tires were on the side walk. Snyder is small; the side I was on at the time porch/front door is not far from the sidewalk. I was about 5 feet away.... Imagine if this was a Sheriffs van how other non officials drive down the road.
Who is the new Alderman again? I can't remember although I voted lol. I will plan it on pregnancy and newborn baby. It's not even safe to walk on the road. I was holding my newborn baby and walking to get my mail. I was in my driveway and a car came zooming down the street. I looked at car as soon as they got onto street in hopes of them noticing I had a baby in my hands. NOPE, I had to literally move. What are the chances we could get 2 small speed bumps on Snyder ave? I have never seen a cop park anywhere near. My son is nearly 10 and I even let him cross the street by himself to visit Our neighbors. I AM MOVING OF KINGSTON NEXT YEAR.
