How many more accidents need to happen before something is done to fix this issue on the Asbury Lane/Medical Center Pkwy intersection? I know they call the issue being "resolved" with the widened median. However, with this "widened" median, I have been in an accident here (from confused people at the stop sign not knowing those turning have the right of way) along with others. I can never get TO my house or FROM my house without feeling like I am going though a defensive driving class. I would think Rutherford County would be tired of being called to the scene of the same intersection. With all the time cleaning up accidents, we could have spent that time on resolving the issue. I suggest having the road (asbury lane) moved back or connected to the road behind the farm, so we can come out at the light near the gas station (or even the light at the embassy would be nice). This would also eliminate the confusion of those who dont know the interstate is 10 ft away and not in the neighborhood. Yes, I love having the interstate a hop skip and jump away, but I think Id rather be able to safely get to and fro. Also, it would be nice if the grass is kept cut so you can actually see what is coming. I know you may be tired of reading about this issue, but think about those tired of sitting in traffic! Thank you!

My wife and I have been looking into buying a particular house in the neighborhood off of Asbury Lane, but the thought of having to deal with this dangerous intersection every day has been enough to make me want to pass on an otherwise wonderful house.
I believe this proposal is very sensible: close the intersection of Asbury and Medical Center, and instead extend Asbury Ln to connect it to Wilkinson Pike on the other side of the Batey's farm, allowing traffic to flow behind the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce building. That way, residents off of Asbury could have a safe entry/exit at the traffic light intersection of Greshampark Dr. and Medical Center, at the Thornton's gas station.
As at least one other thread on this website has noted, TNDOT has already said a traffic light cannot be placed at the current intersection as it is too close to the onramp for I-24. This means connecting Asbury with Wilkinson is the only viable solution. Something must be done, as the combination here is just too much to not resolve: the deadly left-hand turn onto Medical Center, and the much-too-frequent occurrence of drivers erroneously taking the turn onto Asbury when they think it's the onramp for I-24 --and thus entering that residential road at full highway speed. It's a nightmare.
