Description
Nearly EVERY morning on my commute to work there are one or more cars that turn left into Dunkin Donuts coming from Derby and BLOCK the two lanes for oncoming traffic going toward Derby! Why are they allowed to cross over and block the entire intersection? This is rude and dangerous! Hello tried to tell an Ansonia police officer and he just laughed and said I guess they need their donuts? Really???? Wait til there is an accident!

Okay, everybody, relax. This is one of those situations where all drivers need to be careful. Every driver has the right to make the movements described in this thread. Yes, it is wrong to make the left against traffic if you don't have full clearance for your car to enter the driveway, but not illegal. Most drivers are probably afraid those cars traveling south will make the turn before them, thereby getting ahead in line. Regardless, oncoming cars are obligated to stop if a car turns in front of you or "blocks the box".
The real problem here is the design of the parking lot and driveways. It is too big a use on too small a lot, therefore, in order to meet zoning regulations the drive-up stacking lanes and parking lot driveway were allowed to share the same space. It is a disaster and leads to cars snaking out into Pershing Drive and parked cars backing into the drive-up lane.
Common sense folks! Don't worry about who is right and who is wrong. It is an existing condition that we all have to live with. Look out for other drivers and follow the rules of the road yourself. The town is not going to post a cop there. Unfortunately, there is no solution short of enlarging the DD site.

You may also want to reach out to the Department of Transportation as it is a state highway, not a local road.
There are idiots behind the wheel everywhere. The taxpayers can't pay to put a policeman everywhere where there is a rush hour annoyance.
