The City does not install mirrors to correct sight distance issues for many reasons. They are not an approved traffic control device in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) the federal standard by which the city adheres, they do not give a true representation of vehicle distance or speed, and can cause maintenance and liability issues. Instead the City has a program called the Vision Obstruction program which investigates sight distance related issues at unsignalized locations and addresses them either by removing the obstruction or by adding additional traffic control measures such as signs. Staff will investigate this issue.

The obstruction when viewing from leaving Shadow Glen happens to be a three story home. The adjacent hill happens to be on one if he main thoroughfares in the Hedingham community. The blind drive signs would do very little as speed and sunglare are very large factors.

A four-way stop sign might help. Not only do many people live on Shadow Glen/Turtle Point, but the community pool at that corner generates a lot of traffic during the season.

It's also a school bus stop.

Our easiest bike route to the Greenway goes through this intersection, but we rarely take it. Turning left there is scary.

The multi-way stop evaluation for the intersection of Grand Traverse and Shadow Glen is complete. The intersection did not meet any of the major warrants. There is a sight distance issue on one of the approaches but there is a warning sign already in place. We are denying the request for multi-way stops on Grand Traverse.
