Description
This section of road desperately needs a safety path. There is no more than 12 inches between the white line and the guard rail. It is extremely unsafe for walkers, runners, and bicyclers. Please give us a safe road.

Safety paths are fine for walkers and runners but are unsafe for bicyclists. That is why the national design guidelines state that they shouldn't be designated for bicyclists. However, the Road Commission for Oakland County and West Bloomfield ignore best practices for bicyclist safety.
The proper solution would be a sidewalk and either bike lanes or 4' paved shoulders. That would be safest for all users, including motorists.

In the photo you will notice guardrail on both sides of the road in this stretch. The reason the guardrail is there is because there is a drop off on either side of the road. That means that widening the road would require a lot of backfilling on either side of the road. This is both costly and distruptive of the natural environment. However, since there is no funding available to do such work, the environmental questions are moot at this point.
