Description
The traffic light at the Intersection of Rt100 and Shoemaker Road is defective. The traffic light will cycle even when there are no cars waiting in the other directions. The light used to have an operating traffic sensing system with the ground loops for sensing waiting vehicles. With the country focused on going green, unnecessary stops and starts at any intersection consumes fuel and adds to the countries total consumption. This system should be either repaired or upgraded to provide “smart signaling.”

cycling eliminates the problems with closed loop systems though we now have better alternatives. (not sensing motorcycles, smaller cars, cars with low volume metal). This is really a catch 22. It is an inefficiency that can be addressed. I would suggest a hybrid. Cycle as is but have sensors considerably far away from the intersection that react quickly to change the light. This might also be effective at making people slow down for the intersection. Say a loop or other detection system 1/2 mile away from the light with instant change during non peak hours that match a 55 mph. speed to the light. That would subconciously trigger drivers to go the speed limit when crossing the loop and eliminate or at least lesson breaking thereby increasing fuel efficency.
It nice to see someone actually post a real improvement and not just whinning because the world doesn't work the way the want :)
