Description

There used to be a sign marking the legal southern border of the Croatan surfing area. The border should be 800 feet south of the Rudee jetty per City Code Sec. 6-116(e)(3). This border corresponds roughly to the area behind 540 S Atlantic Ave. The sign resembled the signs that mark the surfing area north of Rudee Inlet. The sign at the southern border of the Croatan surfing area is now missing and needs to be replaced. Without the sign there, the lifeguards tend to allow surfing (and forbid swimming) farther south than the code allows. EMS has already talked to the Va Beach Lifeguard Service to correct the lifeguards' perceptions, but I understand that replacing the sign should actually be a Public Works responsibility. Please replace the sign.
