I have also seen many near misses here. This is a really, really dangerous intersection, although I think the steps that you mention would greatly improve matters.

I work at the YMCA, and I completely agree. This is a very dangerous intersection. I would love to see a stop light at 25th and Broadway.

I think it is also a serious safety issue and the way drivers race down Broadway they need to have sone warning that pedestrians are crossing, such as flashing lights on the crosswalk or a signal light

I bicycle through this intersection daily. It is definitely heavily used, and some street marking would be helpful. AND flashing lights might help signal pedestrians to use more caution as well, since they have to pause to push the button. Pedestrians frequently step directly into my path at this intersection, seemingly without looking.

This is definitely a dangerous intersection. Instead dumbs stunts like closing off and reopening traffic access at Broadway and Telegraph (i.e., "Latham Square"), it would make so much more sense if the city just installed a few traffic lights at intersections like this one.

The new median plants have become overgrown which also is preventing on coming traffic from recognizing when pedestrians are trying to use the crosswalk.

Apparently even censored profanity is not allowed on SeeClickFix, although I felt it was warranted. Anyway, what I was trying to report is that an elderly man was struck and severely injured in this crosswalk around 3pm today by a hit-run driver.

That's terrible! I wish that Walk, Bike Oakland had spent less time advocating for Latham Square and more time advocating for basic improvements at intersections like these!

I totally agree about the need for improvements here, Herbert, but please note that WOBO is not a one-issue organization. Regardless of how you feel about Latham Square that doesn't mean they aren't working hard to fix intersections like this and many others all over the city.

I have also been told that some of the community leaders and businesses in the area have already been working with city staff on fixes for this crosswalk, but unfortunately they came too late to prevent today's collision. At the very least we can hope that this will compel the city to act faster.

I live near some terrible intersections too---mainly on Northgate between 27th and Grand---and I would LOVE to see these fixed!

Hopefully the pressure from all of us will get the city to move! :)

An elderly pedestrian was struck and severely injured in this crosswalk around 3pm today, by a hit-and-run driver. He's still in the hospital, and I'm told that the swelling around his brain is significant. @#$%. Just, @#$%...

A day late but here comes the signage and new crosswalk stop points.
