Description

Chabot Road has become an increasingly busy thoroughfare road, as it connects the 24 freeway entrances and exits to College Avenue. It is also a common block for 2 hour parking by College Avenue and home to a school. It is also an area of heavy bicyclist and pedestrian use because Chabot road sports a bike lane and connects to the popular Old Tunnel Road route. Even during non-rush hour periods, approximately 4-6 cars per minute travel on the 6200 block of Chabot Road or on the side streets Patton or Presley.
Despite the high use by pedestrians (including children) and cyclists, cars frequently travel at high speeds on Chabot Road, well in excess of the speed limit. This is quite dangerous and is the primary cause of accidents and near-misses every day. This is particularly a problem near the intersection of Patton and Chabot (by the school) and Presley and Chabot (by the freeway off-ramp).
Traffic calming mechanisms, like a decreased speed limit, traffic enforcement, or speed bumps, would help decrease traffic accidents and near misses in this quiet residential neighborhood.
