We don't activate our blue lights and sirens every time we go to a call but that doesn't mean we don't need to get there pretty quick. Ask the lady who's stalker keeps riding by her house whether she minds if we speed a little on our way there. Maybe you could ask the clerk at the gas station if he minds if we weave in and out of traffic a few times while we are on our way to catch the guy that just pistol whipped him in the midst of the robbery. We try to get where we are going in a timely manner so that the next "FIX IT" we deal with isn't about how long it took us to get to there. WE go to the problems that make other folks turn around and go the other way, the problems you don't have to deal with because WE do it for you. Let me guess, you live somewhere where the only time you would need the services of The Hattiesburg Police Department is when you've rear-ended somebody on Hardy St because you were in a hurry and the person in front of you wasn't. Maybe you need us because a drunk just t-boned you and your family and now he is trying to leave so he doesn't go to jail. HPD would have been there sooner but Marie said she wanted them to stop speeding and weaving in and out of traffic. I bet you wouldn't mind if I was johnny-on-the-spot then, would you?
