Approximately a week ago a young family friend got a flat tire after dark from a very deep/large pothole on Half Mile Road. This past week my daughter got a flat tire, also after dark, from this same pothole. These roads (both on the East Haven/North Haven side) are in terrible condition and have remained so for far too long. The residents/taxpayers in these areas have a right to expect reasonably well-maintained roads. Please.
It looks like they're getting ready to pave Half Mile, near St. Terese's Church (North Haven's side). However, that's only a portion of a road long overdue. Half Mile continues into East Haven/Northford and Warner Road is still unacceptable. We drive out of our way to avoid Half Mile, picking Warner Road as our poison, which is just as bad. It's the only way to get to/from home. The vehicles unnecessarily take a beating that is more than just normal wear and tear, and it's unacceptable.
These comments have been posted for a while now and nothing has been done about this street! I don't know what the problem with EH is. Half Mile Rd down to Totoket needs to be widened. Period. Are they waiting for another accident to happen? School buses and trucks from Tilcon use this road every day. You cannot see oncoming cars coming around that bend from either side. If you do not know the street, you don't know that you need to hug the right side in order to avoid any oncoming vehicles. It is so dangerous! Mayor Maturo do something!! Leonard Fasano was contacted on this issue years ago and he said that it was not a state road and could not do anything. He told us to contact our mayor, who was April at the time. Now it is being sent to you Joe! Please widen this road!!!
North Haven has graded Half Mile Road to the East Haven town line in preparation of paving. The remainder of Half Mile Road (the East Haven side) from the boundary line to at least Warner Road needs to be done badly. East Haven needs to do their share. Warner Road is also unacceptable from Half Mile Road to Middletown Avenue. It's unacceptable that all area residents have to sustain undue beatings to the wear and tear of their autos when good tax money is paid. I know things are tight all over, but this is so well overdue. This section is forever forgotten because it's on the outskirts.
This issue remains open. It was a problem for many years before it the issue was posted 2.5 years ago. Still, nothing's been done on the East Haven side. Since it posted, my daughter got a second flat tire, as did I, from deep potholes. In her case the tire was repairable, but in mine it wasn't. In addition unnecessary wear and tear is put on our vehicles. The potholes sometimes can't be seen because the roads are poorly lit in spots with overgrown trees, or are filled with water and appear to be a shallow puddle, or there are oncoming vehicles so there's nowhere to go due to the road being extra narrow. It's not fair that we pay taxes, yet are forced to endure unacceptable road conditions.
It’s still an issue. Since the original post, I personally have had three flats from potholes on this road. You can dodge them on one side, only to hit them on the other. Other family members or friends have as well. The road surface is unacceptable: if not potholes, just horrendously uneven car-damaging patches on top of patches. I agree with Linda on the widening. There is a section of Half Mile, as Warner is being approached, where cars need to stop ahead to let the other pass.
It’s worse than ever. There are two deep potholes between Salvatore Drive & Half Mile Road, on Warner, that are deep enough to blow out a tire or cause an accident/injury to anyone on two wheels.... smaller ones closer to the intersection. Also, immediately turning from Warner onto Half Mile in the first curve is a section of asphalt missing from the roadside....it’s dangerous and all the Town continues to do is put bandages on it. It’s so bad that dodging to the other side is useless bc the potholes are everywhere!!
I’ve been in this area since 2009, and the roads are worse than ever. I guess because we are on the outskirts of town, our tax dollars don’t hold the same value. There’s pot holes around my driveway and at the bottom of my street. I’ve asked several times, very nicely, that they be repaired. Nothing.
