Description
Cars parked illegally, some disabled are creating a serious traffic hazard. Traffic coming up and over the hill from Hudson St. or turning left off Montrepose have to swing blindly out into the oncoming lane to get around the parked and disabled vehicles. Traffic coming the other way cannot see the oncoming traffic because of the rise. I have personally had to brake and go up onto and over curb to avoid oncoming traffic.

So the city of Kingston continues to allow a reported dangerous condition to exist, which I believe would make them complacent in any legal damages resulting from this condition....Hopefully that doesn't happen.

You have an alderman, you have the police, fire, DPW, sanitation.
It is unkind, rude and unproductive, to say the least, to just whale on city officials. Yes, you can be anonymous here, but you have to give up your anonymity, call or write to the city, to your alderman.
We are all a bit less civil in this phenomena of anonymous public posting. The same goes for me.
Peace
The police have been notified, they understand how the problem started, they've worked to fix it and they will put out a few tickets. That's unfortunate for the illegal parkers because those tickets are expensive! And nobody needs that kind of surprise.

just an FYI i opened this and closed it with the last post... I am a homeowner and a resident of the neighborhood...and while i chose to remain anon in THIS forum, I am not when I've repeatedly reported this and other situations situation to KPD....Granted I have not contacted my alderperson directly, since according to this forum's distribution he and others are on copy to these posts and felt that would be redundant.
I was not 'whaleing'(sp) on anyone...in fact I feel I was the one who(along with KPD) got 'whaled' on by the person parking illegally...
My feeling is that City Of Kingston and KPD have more pressing issues to direct their resource to than what is probably perceived as a illegal parking issue....it was my intent to show this was not a matter of inconvenience but rather a matter of public safety.

I hope you are never in a situation where you see fite hydrats blocked by illegally parked vehicles. This puts lives in jeapardy. A driver that does that deserves the fines. Ifg the landlord can't provide enough parking, well the residents need to take that up with the city or the landlord. And if drivers want to stop getting tix, they should contact their alderman or woman to have the no parking signs removed. Just realize there'll be pushback from those who know the value of restricted parking at that intersection when the snow has narrowed the street by 30%. So peace back at you. We all live together, and there's rules we're all supposed to follow to keep things safe and equitable.

More money for the police to hire more cops, to have the ability to get out of their cars might fix this issue..
But what do I know..

After all I may be all wet and this may be all in my head and not an issue what-so ever.

People that are "watching" this are not "directed to act": if you want action, you must deliver the request directly to them: phone, mail, email. This forum is a citizens forum. Furthermore be certain that our carping and sniping here discourages government direct action in this site and several who have tried in the past to interact here have found it unproductive and were thoroughly discouraged.
It seems that people are willing to do anything but something that might actually produce results. We are more willing to show off our wit, declaim in the incompetence of various organization and mutually assure ourselves that things have always been bad and will never get better: humbug.
When the messages to this board inviting and informative so that we, everyone one of us, would feel empowered to take action, feel safe in writing, and have their efforts appreciated, this will work.
We all know how difficult it may be to identify problems and then get them fixed: here we put down what we observe, carefully and with as much information as we can, we note the details of the problem for the record, and we enable information, support, agreement with our fellow citizens and the one or several of us that have the time, the phone number, some contact, some boots on the ground skills to clean up, pick up, walk around, witness, we do that.
Meantime, the police have been called. There are already no parking signs. Some citizens are going to get surprised with some expensive tickets, painful for the citizens, revenue for the city.
Where there are enforcement problems, put in a call to the police, report the situation, thank them for their attention.
Bottom line, that is the standard on which all submissions to this site are really judged. Clear, concise descriptions, follow up actions and closing the issue with thanks.
Peace

I'll call again too... with this update, that police are driving by.
Next is the revenue question... the city needs it.

Yes, it takes a while, and it especially takes continue enforcement. The law when executed best is swift and certain. It doesn't have to be punishing or draconian.
