The City of Raleigh and NCDOT use thermoplastic pavement markings with reflective glass beads, when installing new pavement markings. This method meets national standards for retroreflectivity. Sometimes rain affects how light reflects off the glass beads. Paint is only used as an interim solution if the road is going to be resurfaced in the near future. This section of Wake Forest Rd was recently resurfaced by NCDOT and new pavement markings were installed as well as raised pavement markers (the reflectors you see along the lane lines). These marking should meet retroreflectivity standards. We will perform a night field visit to verify.
