Description

The intersection of 50th Ave and Fremont Way at Bancroft has been problematic for years. A hit and run driver collided with the building on the corner of 50th Ave in May. Public records show a vehicle collision with the building in 2011.

Two days ago another hit and run driver collided with another vehicle on Bamcroft Ave, this time closer to Fremont Way.

Most problems concern traffic on Bancroft, which is travelling too fast from the east before the split with Bond St; and visibility from the side streets is difficult. Vehicles are often parked in red zones on Bancroft, reducing visibility even more.

Traffic calming needs to be improved on this stretch of Bancroft. It is a residential area and this intersection is frequently used by students walking to and from Fremont High, and library users walking to Melrose branch library.
