The parking situation is becoming a problem, the grass is non existing on one side b/c of cars trying to pass. Its a narrow street when cars are parked on one side the traffic tends to pull on the lawns to get around. There are no sidewalks/curbs (Cortland/Adirondack/Russell Rd) in most of that area. We have no crosswalks/signage on Cortland and Sunset. We have stop signs which are ignored constantly. Walking is dangerous for residents/school staff and children. Why doesn't the school district take some action with their staff and where they can park? Can't the city traffic division come to some compromise with the school district so we can all co-exist in the neighborhood? Thanks

I agree with Pat Serafino. We need the Albany City School and the Albany City Traffic division to come to some kind of compromise on the parking. Along with Cortland street problem there are multi streets in Mrs. Serafino area which are effected in the same way. For example Maplewood, Avon just to mention some more streets that are also effected with parking and the grass is almost non existing. I understand we have to co-exist with the school we have been do it for many years without a problem. Now the school has 330 students and more teachers and intern teachers it is very difficult for the residents to have a quality of life which once existed.. I believe it is time to straighten out the problem. This is not the first time Mrs. Serafino requested help many more people also asked to have this problem solve but it keeps on falling on deaf ears.

We will be evaluating this reqeust and will report back with our findings.

This will help many people out and not having to worry about squeezing their vehicles through that area each and every morning as the traffic goes by that school there.

Just following up on the Cortland St situation. This has been going on for 2 school years. I called DGS asked them evaluate the street, the ruts between the street/grass are terrible, the corner on Cortland/Adirondack is crumbled. (Nothing from DGS) This is all caused by cars trying to navigate driving with cars parked on both sides. I see user friendly signs/crosswalks all over the city. I don't understand why some streets (Beacon/Hillcrest/Sunset and surrounding streets in the Eagle Point neighborhood) have no parking signs and others are congested with cars. What makes their street better than Cortland/Adirondack and surrounding streets w/o signage. Don't we all pay taxes (school/property) so why aren't these streets in the same neighborhood treated differently?
Today there were cars on Cortland St (school staff) with empty parking spaces at the school. Why is that? Has there been any dicussion about adding more parking spaces on the school property?

The lack of curbs and sidewalks in this neighborhood make this area nearly impossible for walking any time of the year or week, but especially when school is in session. It's an important issue and I'm wondering what we could do to bring attention to the problem in order to expedite a solution. Has this issue been addressed with our City Council Member? Has it been brought up at a neighborhood association meeting? I have an issue out here on the intersection of Tudor/Magazine and Western. It's been difficult making any headway through See Click Fix. Actually, if you look through most of the issues assigned to APD on here, most have been ignored or closed with no solution. I know these issues are complex but they are too important to ignore.

As president of Eagle Hill Neighborhood Association this issue as been addressed many times at our meetings. Mrs. Serafino can contest to the association addressing the issue. We had the old superintendent Ray Colucciello who came to the school with his traffic engineer. Officer Rick Roman, Officer Janet Zalatan, and Officer Brooks our present Neighborhood police officer have also addressed this issue. The problem did not happen over night. This has been an on going problem not only for Cortland but for Maplewood, Avon, Sunset and even Russell Road. Has these issue been address by our City Council Member? I believe the resolution was that Traffic Engineering was to reach out to Joe Igoe and Frank Commisso. Did he? If you look at the amount of land that is not being utilized by the school the parking problem for the teachers and staff could be rectified easily. Has traffic engineering been to the site? Has the school addressed this issue? Every time a ticket is issue it’s the staff that receives the tickets. Most of the ticket go to the college students that do not have a permanent parking spot and have to park on the street and the reason they are at our school they are helping our children.

Thanks for your comment. Hopefully, we'll get these issues resolved. Crosswalks/signage is a must. I called DGS today about fixing the street. We'll see what happens.

Vince, thanks for your response. I only very recently learned about the neighborhood association & attended the last meeting. These are obviously complex issues and its good to learn more of the history. Hopefully a satisfactory solution can present itself through this & future discussions.

I was wondering if any progress has been made with the Albany school district and traffic division about the parking situation, crosswalks, signage. More parking for the staff at Eagle Point in most important, which would eliminate all the cars parked in every direction on the side streets. Crosswalks and signage would definitely be appreciated. Walking, driving is a nightmare to say the least since there are few or no sidewalks. Thanks.
I have called DGS several times about fixing the street with no response.

Frank Commisso has reached out to Traffic Engineering and discussed the problem on Cortland the surround streets. But we did have Traffic Engineering up to Cortland and Russell as well as the surrounding streets. This took place 2 weeks ago. What can we do next? Wait for the new Mayor? I feel this is a serious problem for the residents in the area and a safety problem as well. We will keep on trying to resolve this problem. As you know school will be starting in just a few short weeks.

It's nice to know some attention is being paid here. But how does this differ from other comments over the past couple years?

We now have 2 cross walks. one is on the corner of Cortland and Sunset. The second one is in the middle of Sunset which lets students from Eagle Point Elementary School to cross safely from the school to the playground. Thank you to DGS and to the Traffic Engineer, William E. Trudeau Jr.
