There used to be a sign on that traffic island, showing drivers that they had to go around it in order to head South onto clifton Ave. About a year ago a construction cew was digging that area up to repair some pipes in the ground and in the process, they took the sign down but never replaced it when the work was finished.

I would agree. I know the area well and recently went to make that turn and while I was aware to go around the island, I noticed the signage is gone and someone could EASILY make a left turn before the island (which seems reasonable as the turn after is awkward) and be on the wrong side of the road. How fast can this be fixed?

At least a few days. Heads up just went to the PD & DOT.

I always thought this sight was in part here to help messages get to the correct people its not always easy or pleasant to call city hall etc I hope maybe with all the money spent on technology we can get to the part where a simple text email or tweet will do the job of getting message to correct people /dept. Obviously this does not include any medical or police emergenciesd

Planner, What is more astonishing is the fact that the Ansonia police never notice this.

Cities have to pay to license the dashboard function to use this site, that is why I try to pay attention and route them to the proper place. Most towns have thus far decided they can't justify the cost when they already have complaint and dispatch functions in place that the taxpayers pay for.
Probably some time in the future they will see the cost-benefits of converting to a site like this. However, particularly where safety is involved, you can't just assume that the correct department will see your complaint/issue. I track this site diligently for the Valley and I have apparently missed this one for three years.

The City of Ansonia has enough police officers on staff to help out in Seymour and Derby if needed. They drive around all over. They didn't notice a dangerous intersection and make note? Planner, I see your point but with the police, mayor, etc all driving around the city THEY (you would think) would be one step ahead of the public in seeing dangers.

I get your point Angelo, Bob, et al, but I have to admit I didn't notice it either and transportation planning is my job. Apparently the signs have been missing for two years, ever since CT DOT installed the signalized pedestrian phase. They must have removed the signage but no one really knows.
Anyway, to your point, it's not the thing you notice if you're familiar with the intersection. If you've been driving the intersection for years and know the correct way to negotiate it, you tend not to notice the missing signage on an approach you don't use. It's not apparent unless you actually drive the wrong way or have someone coming at you the wrong way. The other thing is that most people who want to get to Clifton / Division from Pershing Drive northbound will use Division Street hill. It's quicker and easier most of the time. Also, there have been no accidents so nothing to indicate a problem that would trigger a site assessment from us planners or APD traffic.
As soon as I brought it to the attention to APD the Chief responded immediately and DOT got involved. It's probably not installed yet but there may be cones or temporary signage in the interim. We're not infallible; don't beat up these officers who are responding to crime, not looking for signs that aren't there.

I have called a few downed stop signs to the police departments over the years. What got me to post this problem was when as I was waiting for the light to change, a car turning left onto clifton Ave. was coming toward me and didn't realize right away that he had to go around the island.
