Description
There should be a yield sign instead of a stop sign at this exit. There is plenty of room for people coming off of the ramp to see if a car is coming and most people already do not make a complete stop if the road is clear.
A police officer has already figured this out and now sits on the side of the road at night and pulls over anyone who does not make a complete stop. I think this is unnecesssary and a poor use of time for any officer tasked with serving and protecting the public.

VDOT is unable to switch the stop signs to yield signs for the following reasons:
1. There’s no acceleration lane for motorists to move into from the ramp and they must also enter the through lanes of Route 33 at nearly 90-degree angle.
2. The embankment along southbound Route 33 restricts full sight distance for vehicles on the ramp entering Route 33. A motorist must proceed up to just 20 feet behind the stop bar before they are able to see the intersection clearly.
Given the operating speeds on Route 33 in conjunction with the road geometric challenges stated above, we recommend there be no change to the existing traffic control.
