At that particular spot- the left hand lane ENDS approx 100 feet from where the ramp enters 209 and goes into one lane. If you get into the left hand lane you either have to pull in front of them (if they dont yield) or put on the brakes(while you are going 55) to pull in behind them. There is no lane to merge onto 209 from that ramp you either yield (which is why the sign is there) or fly directly into traffic.

I think the sign at the ramp says the left lane ends in 1000 feet.

Yes and also at that spot from the yield line to end of lane is all of about 10 feet long. And the Left Lane End sign is out of view of the people that are supposed to be yeilding to get onto 209. They obviously need to make the ramp longer or move where the two lanes go to one further down the road. Yeah I'm not slamming on the brakes for anyone coming off that ramp especially at 55 cause then there would be the chance some idiot behind me would rear-end me. Maybe if the were two yeild signs one on each side that would correct problem, the sign that is there now is kind of at a bad angle.

I think the only solution would be to make a lane for the ramp traffic, so they can safely merge onto 209. This ramp is a real hazard, it is merging to state highways and doesn't offer a merging lane? Someone will have to die there before anyone with the state will take notice. Definitely a bad spot. yes, u r merging 3 lanes into one lane at 55 mph. another wonderful NY idea! There really does not seem to be any good reason not to extend the ramp and the left lane so there is more room and less hazard.

I'm quite surprised we don't hear more about this off ramp. Terrible design if you ask me. Would anyone care to record a few cars coming onto Rt 209 South during peak hours and posting the video here. Seeing it would defiantly speak a thousand words.
