Traffic jams and near miss accidents are caused by cars trying to turn left onto Liberty Ave from East bound Egypt road. Eliminate the left turns and add a left turn signal from schuylkill ave (east bound).
Elliminating left turns is an illogical solution to this problem as Liberty Avenue is a one way street and traffic coming from Egypt Road would then have to find a turnaround. Limiting the traffic on Liberty would be a better solution. Prehaps adding speed bumps and reducing parking spots might help. People using Liberty Avenue as a thruway regularly hit speeds of over 50 MPH. Several children have been hit in the past 50 years as well as animals. If Liberty Avenue is a less attractive shortcut fewer turns will be made at Main and Liberty. A do not block intersection sign at the corner would also be welcome. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to get home, but cannot turn onto my street because people waiting for the light at Main and Egypt have the street completely blocked.
Assume you mean East-bound Main Street. This is the same problem as #44884. Great idea to eliminate left turns from Main and add left-turn signal at the next intersection, Schuylkill Ave. There already is a left turn signal for west-bound traffic there.
If they switched the directions of the two one way streets-Liberty and Jefferson it would do a lot to improve the traffic pattern of that area.
Liberty with a one way leading to Main St would only be allowed to make a right turn. At the Egypt Rd intersection the traffic coming from Egypt would have free access to make a right, a left, or continue straight onto Jefferson. The both directions on Main would have a left signal to either go on Egypt or onto Jefferson.
Switching directions of the one way streets is a good idea.... And speed bumps, also a good idea... A left turn signal at the next light would, at the very least, allow a relatively easy way to avoid turning left on Liberty.... (unless you live on that street). There was a bad accident right there last night, presumably from someone trying to turn left. I hope that everyone involved is ok, but hopefully this will make someone pay attention to the problems with the traffic patterns in this area.
I use this road to get to my neighborhood on the other side of Marshall st. You take your life in your hands during evening rush hour traffic every night. I've seen enough accidents from cars speeding down the right hand lane toward the light at Egypt Rd. have you SEEN the telephone pole at the corner. Next car to hit that will bring it down no doubt. Simple solution... "Don't block the intersection" sign along with a "Slow down intersection ahead" will help these speed demons from closing off the entry of the road.
