Not a hill? When standing from 1011-1015 Ward Ave NE there is very clearly a hill. There is no visibility of that intersection or beyond. In fact, there was an automobile wreck there last night, with flashing lights and tow truck operator yells keeping my family awake well into the night. If I can’t see over the hill from my home, how can one coming from the opposite direction see me, my vehicle, my children? On another occasion months ago while I backing out of my driveway, after having looked toward the hill and seeing nothing coming over it, a vehicle going well over 45 mph came over the hill and crashed into my vehicle. Neither of us had any way of seeing each other until the vehicles collided. Not a hill? Visibility is fine? If there had been a stop sign on Ward at that intersection to slow that driver down, he would have been going at a low enough speed to see my vehicle and for me to see him after crossing through the intersection. What will it take, my children running out into road after their ball and getting killed by a speeding driver coming over that hill? There are six houses on this block with children who either live in the home or visit often. Drivers will use Ward over other parallel streets simply because it has no stop signs preventing them from speeding east. The road is unsafe.

The nonexistent hill

Traffic Engineering is in the process of re-examining this request. The staff member who originally responded to this issue was correct in that, at the intersection of England and Ward, as viewed by drivers on England, the hill poses no visibility limitation; however, other staff members have been to the site, and observed the hill as it affects visibility of driveways to the west. Some preliminary measurements have been made, and staff will be acquiring speed data for Ward. We will be responding to this request after collecting further data and making additional measurements. Thank you for examining this problem. I agree that the main problem is speed. We're hearing from neighbors all around the neighborhood of speeding cars. Yesterday on Next Door Five Points a woman and her dogs were about hit by a speeding vehicle on Halsey or Windham.

The stop sign is an acceptable solution. Speed humps don't solve the problem and they destroy the driving experience for all of us including those that drive slowly and carefully. While recently walking on McCullough, a woman in a large Cadillac SUV passed me doing around 40 at some speed humps where she did not slow down.

What I think we absolutely need is police enforcement, not any more speed humps. There are so many speeders everywhere in Huntsville that enforcement would not only make our residential streets saver, it would be a real revenue generator. I'm not asking that we stop everyone who goes 4 or 5 miles over the limit. There are plenty driving 15 to 20 miles over the limit on our residential streets and those offenders should be stopped and cited.

A little common sense goes a long way.
Shouldn't be hard to simply drive through and see the issues as I did.
This is a valid complaint and needs to be takes more seriously.
Safety should always be first.
