There is a bike path that goes from Countryside to Essex Center, so there is no need to fill in the sidewalk there. I agree with another poster who suggested signage, particularly since many don't know it exists. However, there is no bike path that I am aware of as one travels down Park St. toward the dam, and the sidewalk is spotty.

My point was also re: pedestrians, who probably don't want to walk more than a mile out of their way to go through Countryside to get from 5 Corners to the Shoppes. Admittedly, maybe not a lot of Vermonters walk 2 miles? But it might be a nice option, e.g. for the people living on Athens or Taft.

Thank you for your input. Would you like to see bike and pedestrian signage with distances/travel times - or both? Are there locations you would like to see on the signs? Do you like the look and information provided on these for example?

The Town has requested and received planning funds from the Chittenden Regional Planning Commission to study the feasibility of putting a paved path from roughly Athens Drive to the Circ Highway along VT15. There will be opportunity for public input as the study gets underway later this year. If feasible, the Town would than apply for design and construction funds with an 80% VTRANS grant to actually construct it. It will be an expensive project due to limited right of way, ledge and a stream crossing. These type projects usually take from 5 to 7 years to get from planning to actual construction.
