There is a consistent problem with cars parking on Fountain St. too near the intersections with Barnett, McKinley, and Alden, creating difficulty seeing traffic when entering Fountain from those streets. Parking enforcement will help reduce the danger.
Can cheap road paint and bollards be used to better indicate the areas where parking is not allowed? The neighborhood association could easily do it for a few hundred dollars, if they had permission to.
While pulling out onto Fountain Street from all of these cross streets is a problem, the biggest problem is still in front of the Post Office! No parking should be strictly enforced, because when people stop there they are in between traffic lights. They then pull out in between red and green lights risking their car and everyone else's.Please help!!!
Can bollards and paint be used until a permanent solution is found? This is what most other countries do. There is even an example in New Haven, on Fowler Street -a concrete bollard and road paint have been placed to stop traffic, and they seem to work fine. After a few years (the next time curbs are re-done) a permanent curb can be poured but in the meantime there's no reason to wait for years before taking action.
What about bushes or a metal fence along the curb except for the crosswalks? The post office has a lot on the side and parking on Phillip Street. People only pull up in front because it is convenient.
Watched as cars parked blocking the crosswalk in front of post office. So we have illegally parked, blocking crosswalk ramp, parked too close to corner, and then pulling out doing a u-turn in the middle of the intersection. Pick your infraction
We are trying to delineate issues that are still current and need the department's attention to resolve. If your issue remains and needs to be addressed, please either reopen or create as a new issue. Thank you.
