The reconstructed curb and larger plaza in front of the police station have also significantly narrowed E 31st ST east of Nicollet and make it difficult for drivers to navigate the very non-parallel E 31st ST intersection at Nicollet from both EB and WB directions. The dashed white lines help, but EB drivers in the left lane often cross into the right lane due to the non-parallel nature of the intersection and cutoff cars that rightfully started in the right lane. Additionally, there is now no shoulder here which creates a lot of close calls at this intersection and causes drivers to either speed across Nicollet to secure their lane or slam on their breaks to avoid a collision. This, in addition to the problems created for the NB 18 bus, begs for this non-parallel intersection reconstruction to be redesigned!
