At the traffic calming hearing with City Council on February 5th, staff was directed to come up with a proposal for multi-way stop intersections along Rainwater Road in lieu of the traditional traffic calming treatments. That proposal was placed on the March 5th Consent Agenda and was approved by City Council. There will be 4 multi-way stop locations added to Rainwater Road. They are: Rainwater Road @ Briarforest Place, Rainwater Road @ Bellechasse Drive, Rainwater Road @ North Ridge Drive, and Rainwater Road @ Weybridge Drive. Sign and paint work began along the street late last week and all work should be completed this week, weather permitting.

These new multi-way stops are ridiculous, particularly the one at Briarforest, which serves no purpose other than to aggravate drivers. I believe these signs are not only counterproductive to the intended purpose of slowing traffic, they are a nuisance to homeowners in the community who have no other way of getting out of the neighborhood. I predict that drivers will develop cases of road rage at all the frequent stops that are now required, and that they will attempt to make up for the lost time by speeding in the spaces between them.

The real solution is not signs, but ENFORCEMENT. I have already witnessed several motorists who are seeing the new signs and are consciously choosing to run through them, and there is absolutely no reason why they shouldn't, as the rules of the road are not being ENFORCED.

The people that complained do not even have to go through the stop signs.

If we have to drive through their subdivision and stop at all they're stop signs the least they can do is take down the tacky slow down signs.

Law-abiding citizens who drive at the posted speed limit are now required to make frequent stops, and, being law-abiding citizens, they will, increasing the time it takes to get out of the neighborhood. Those that choose to ignore the speed limit will likely also choose to ignore stop signs (or at least fail to come to a full and complete stop). All these new signs are doing are punishing the law-abiding citizens, when the purpose of the signs is to crack down on those that refuse to follow the rules. I say again, ENFORCING the law is a much more effective solution.

Furthermore, the two stop signs at Briarforest and Bellechasse are unnecessary, and could have easily been consolidated into a single 4-way stop at Tealbriar/Tealwood. A stop sign at the latter intersection makes significantly more sense than the ones that were erected. Pedestrians from Tealbriar are now at greater risk when crossing Rainwater (as the sidewalk is on the other side of the road), as impatient motorists rush between stop signs, due to limited visiblity at that intersection, as compared to the other two intersections which now feature a red octagon.

I live in this area and if people had obeyed the speed limit to begin with this would not have happened. Hunting ridge road has also turned into a speedway. This is better than speed bumps you see over in Cary neighborhoods.

I appreciate the signs and wish more streets used as a cut through would have stop signs as well! I live on Harps Mill between Litchford & Gresham Lake, and have noticed people speeding all the time!I wish stop signs would be put in place here!
If RPD can't enforce the speeding, then stop signs need to be put in place, as most will stop!!
