Do you know how old those signs are? Young people think they mean 'no turn on red' which is not the case. This sign needs to be removed anyway, because there is now a left turn arrow here, and has been for years.
dont say young people think they mean dont turn on read. THE YOUNGER DRIVERS ARE BOT @#$%. i am a younger driver and i know the difference between no turn on red and wait for green. dont insult us as a whole. address the few who dont know. and chances are i can drive and hadnle any vehicle much better than u and been driving less then a year.
At this intersection there is a turn arrow for only the one direction. When the light cycle the eastbound direction gets a green for all including the turn, the west traffic has to wait for the green thus the sign. And no matter what the age of the driver there is no requirement for a driver to make a turn on red.
I do not agree with the original comment about young drivers. I do agree that this, and any WAIT FOR GREEN sign should be taken down. They should never have been installed in the 1st place. What do they add? Nothing, except expense to taxpayers and most likely reduced traffic safety.
My understanding is that they came out with the sign when vehicle sensing traffic lights were first introduced, as the assumption that both directions of a road would turn green at the same time was no longer the case. If this is the case, then one could argue it was more for old people than young people.
