Unfortunately the police don't have ATVs to chase the offenders. The dispatchers are supposed to send someone out to look, at least.

If there are enough calls the police might be able to purchase their own ATVs. I started video taping the offenders and sharing the videos with the police and news stations. Don't be shy, call the newspaper, TV stations, police, Sen Kissell, Rep Alexander, etc. Hopefully I can get Ashmead Commons and CL&P engaged again in controlling this unwanted traffic again this year.

You people are ridiculous!!! I understand they are trespassing but come on now. They are getting outside and being active. Noise comes and goes. People mow their lawns and do you call the police because it is noisy? How about putting a sign out asking them to pass by slow or use caution when passing near residential housing. I know there are some disrespectful riders out there but the majority would respect your requests. Have a heart for God's sake!!! You chose to live there and that's how it's been there for the past 30 years!

Didn't you read that the dust created by the ATV's are "destroying our homes". I'm not sure how dust can damage a home, nevermind destroy it, but gosh darn it, it's on the internet so it must be true. This website was supposed to be for helping to get things fixed, but it's turned in to "i'm gonna tell on you" so people can complain about other people around them.

Thank you Concerned for your clouded understanding of trespassing. I also live in the area and will be calling the police whenever I see anyone on Hallmark property. Whether they are walking their dog, flying a kit or riding an ATV. They are ruining our quality of life.

Be careful WMS. If you step foot on Hallmark property you immediately lose all of your rights. You become some kind of rightless human and all you'll have is lefts.

I have no problem with people walking dogs or flying kites. I do on the other hand know that the dust produced by countless runs at full throttle enter my home and damage electronics , furniture and more.
I have a simple solution for the ATV riders. Next time the Hallmark Security turns on the amber lights and chases you, stop.Give them your name, address and phone number. Then you'll know for sure where they stand.

You call it trespassing and I call it getting outdoors. Do you take walks back there? Do you call the police when you see people walking back there? Your property value will not go down because those trails have been there for 30 years. Probably longer. I never heard any complaints about snowmobilers. I know there are several back there. Do you have a snowmobile? Maybe that's why. Let's get things fixed in Enfield and not resort to meaningless complaints that just waste tax payer dollars. If they aren't trespassing on your property, what do you care anyway. Hallmark should be the one complaining. It's their land. Concerned for your own well being maybe and nobody elses!

We're all here because we want to better our neighborhood, and though we might disagree on what that entails exactly, let's keep that positive focus in mind.

Call Hallmark and get them to publicly authorize you to ride or walk on their property. It won't happen. About seven years ago Hallmark mailed letters to the surrounding neibourhoods. In the letter they clearly outlined their posistion. Which is not trespassing. Call Hallmark first . If no response call Enfield PD. I have called Hallmark today to see if they would resend the letters. Or at Least publish it in the local papers, including Longmeadow and East Longmeadow.

We had a small town meeting last year. Ashmead Commons and their property management company, Atrium, attended. They own the land that CL&P has the "right of way" on. The police attended. concerned citizens from the condos and other areas attended. We asked CL&P to assess the problem and provide more barriers. They did and the ATVs go around them. If my choice is to have the kids "get outside" or sit on the couch and play video games...then I am all for the video games. I tried walking in the woods and was almost run down by ATVs. So, the woods are off limits to me and my family.

There is a new bill in the works, SB-190. If approved the fines on ATV misuse would rise from $300 to $2000! I ask all concerned citizens to call Senator Kissel's office and ask him to co-sponsor this bill. And yes, if my neighbor was mowing his lawn at 10PM or Midnight I would call the police. I have asked the ATV and dirt bike riders to go elsewhere and they don't. I have videos to prove it if you would like to see them.

Ben, I agree. This issue IS about respect. I go out of my way to be quiet since my neighbor works 2nd shift. I would ask the ATV and dirt bike riders to have some RESPECT and go somewhere else to ride. the Ashmead Commons and Hallmark areas are not personal playgrounds. We pay our taxes and should have some peace and quiet. I didn't even know what an ATV was before I moved to this area 3 years ago. I hope SB-190 passes and the laws will have some teeth to bring some quiet to our neighborhood.

We checked with our colleagues in the Enfield Distribution Center and they confirmed that they do regard the activities you mention to be trespassing, they do call the police when they become aware of such activity and they do press charges if someone is caught.

I'm glad Hallmark reiterated their stance on this serious problem. I wish they would reissue the letter they mailed to the surrounding areas.

Call them and get them going. Take videos of the ATVs on their property. Contact the news to get some media attention. Place calls to the police when you see the ATVs. Concerned is good, active is better!

I have called Hallmark so many times they know my voice. Listen to this. Last summer I called the EPD to respond to my complaint. The dispatcher asked if I'd like a follow up at our residence. I said yes. The EPD officer who came to our home, informed me that because we purchased a home near a farmed area " I bought into the noise and dust". I told him that in fact I had not"bought into" to this issue. I told him if the issue was farming, I would be fine with noise and dust. But the trespassing ATS's are not farming. He said his cruiser was covered in dust and he was not happy to have to wash it. It told him that every time I call to complain about the ATV's I'd wash his car, and that his problem was of no concern to me.

I have only had professionals show up from the police department on the forty or 50 times I have had to call and complain about the ATVs. The police even came to our community meeting and the district officers seemed intent on helping. If you video the ATVs in your area you can call or e-mail the TV crews to do a story on your area. Unfortunately the media interest is fleeting as soon as another bigger story comes along.
