This is true for the whole length of Poplar Road. As a popular shortcut from Ridgewood up to East St., it is common for vehicles to travel in excess of 60 mph on the long straight portion which leads down into these curves. To top it all off, there are no sidewalks on this street for pedestrians or kids that walk to bus stops at either end. This is a long standing joke that the town has continually refused to review. A former Mayor once told me they had bigger fish to fry. They have had Police sit in the street, but naturally when they park in plain sight nobody is going to speed.
Since we moved in seven years ago, our house has been hit by a car once, and another car ran off the road into our yard. About a month ago, a guy ran off the road at Ridgewood and had to be taken to the hospital in a helicopter. The speed limit on these streets is 25 MPH. I always drive the speed limit on these streets. I get passed regularly (at least twice a week) by people that want to drive 50, 60, or 70 MPH.
I know. That is a tough corner right there. I've almost been hit by the school bus taking that turn wide.
And it was really bad when your neighbor had all of those branches sticking out in the middle of the road during the storm cleanup. Not that they had anywhere else to put it with the guardrails.
Everyone should just try and remember to slow down on turns like these and stay on your side of the road. You never know what's coming around the corner.
Not that I drive the speed limit but I certainly don't condone 50+. I wouldn't even recommend more than 35 on Poplar. And on that turn I purposely will drive under the speed limit just for the reason listed above.
The City of Middletown will officially launch SeeClickFix in October 2016. As we ramp up with this partnership, the City is offering a limited number of reportable issue types and we ask that residents submit only the issues listed through SeeClickFix. Other issues not listed through SeeClickFix can be reported by calling the appropriate City Department. If the issue you originally reported has not yet been resolved and is listed through the selectable Issues, please consider submitting a new report through the SeeClickFix system and we’ll be happy to address your concern at that time. Thanks and the City is excited about this new partnership to continue improving Middletown.
