The original poster's description is accurate. I have observed the problem over many years. I have had to remove multiple wheelbarrow loads of dirt every month from the sediment that settles out there after it rains. I spoke with the crews when Dorothea was repaved several years ago and the situation improved slightly, but the drainage there is still not adequate.

The other problem with that drain is that it receives far more water than it can handle. This problem leads to street flooding after fairly minor rain events. This drain receives water not only from Dorothea but from Stokes as well.

I include a photo from last year that illustrates the point. Water is standing up to a foot deep over a distance of maybe 50-100ft. Predictable fun for kids after each summer rain, but not so much for anybody who drives or parks there. As a previous poster points out, the problem is the additonal water from Stokes, probably even South, and the sediment probably comes from the alley between Dorothea and South which washed out down Stokes and into the drain.

Wow. This needs to be fixed.

We have added this location to our repair list, it will be approxiamtely 6-8 weeks depending on the weather before this issue is resolved.

WOW is right, who in their right mind would let their child walk in storm water run-off? Not only is the water probably full of bacteria, fecal matter and pollutants, who knows what that child could possibly be stepping on? Needles? Nails? Unbelievable!!!

Fecal matter and needles? Wow, you have quite an imagination. I take it you never jumped in a puddle as a kid.

If you don't think that the water run-off doesn't contain toxic amounts of fecal bacteria you are only fooling yourself. Alison is absolutely correct. There is a difference between jumping in a puddle and allowing a young child to play in storm run off. Might as well let the kid play in a public toilet. And who knows what could have washed into that street. You sure can't see what is under that nasty water.

That picture is just crazy, and not just because the water is deep.

This is inaccurate information. The City is not contemplating any changes to the use of SeeClickFix. We encourage all citizens to use this tool. Our record of response to SCF inquiries is quite good, with a median time to resolve of about 3 days.
