Between 8:15 and 8:45am it takes me an average of 5 minutes to get through the hundred foot stretch of pavement on River Road between the garrison/46th street intersection and the Western Ave intersection. The lights are so short and they do not allow opposite directions of traffic to move at the same time. But not enough people turn left (in any direction) at that intersection to warrant every light cycle in every direction to have a green arrow. This morning, heading northbound, it took me 8 minutes to get through. This area is a major commuter bottleneck and the city should work in cooperation with Bethesda to study the intersections to find a solution.
