I know that in other cities in which I have lived blind people using service dogs are exempt from pooper-scooper laws. I don't know if this is the case in Portland, but it would seem humane if so.

If this is a joke, it is in very bad taste. If it's not a joke, then you are a very bad person.

I think the response from "fix it! Portland" is very strange and inappropriate. I'm not sure it's up to city officials to pass judgement on the concerns of the citizens using this service.

I personally couldn't pick-up dog poop without throwing up so I would like to help out the blind guy but someone would need to clean up the vomit afterwards.

It seems weird that Clancy had a better response than the officials. I believe this is what the original complaint was asking for.

Mrs Picky, how about showing a little compassion for a fellow human being with a disability? Maybe politely asking if he has a poop bag that YOU could assist him in picking it up.

deez, I was delighted to see a city official stand up for a blind person. How can you be more offended by that than by Picky challenging the blind person about the service dog? Come on, people, a little common sense and compassion, please.

Why would the blind fella have a poop bag with him if he had no intention on picking up the poop? Also I think if he had one he may have offered that solution.

The question was who was responsible for picking up the poop? Obviously the issue has come up before, according to Clancy other cities have policies stating that the person is exempt from picking up the poop.

Working in the City for 30 years I have stepped in more than my fair share of poop that was left on sidewalks and esplanades.

That is a good question. Hopefully, SeeClick will answer it.

Hey, Fix It! Are you saying that the City has no exemption for blind or disabled people who use a service dog? Are they supposed to get someone to go with them to scoop every time they go out?
