Repave hunter drive please!

I walk on this road daily and am nearly sideswiped on a regular basis from cars swerving to avoid rough patches. The road is dangerous enough with its VERY narrow width, steep incline and sharp, near-blind curves. The sloppy patch jobs have only made things worse!

I wrote the Town a year ago using virtually the same language. Let's hope this larger "voices of support" produce some results!

I am a resident on a connecting street (Cedar Ledge Rd.) and travel the area daily. For over 2 years I have complained to both Mr Verangia the councilman who heads the committee in charge of these issues as well as both the old & new Public Works manager. Nothing gets done. Verangia said I could attend one of their meetings to voice my concerns. I thought that was his job. There is a large area that has broken away in the front of my home & 2 water storm drains that have been filled over and over but never properly repaired. Our streets are in desperate need of repair and done correctly, so they will last. I thought this was what we paid our property tax's for?

With the many bikers, walkers, and dogs sharing the road with cars, the poor pavement creates a real danger. As has been shared by many, I, too, have had to swerve to avoid cars coming from the opposite direction on a curve trying to avoid rough pavement/holes. This is made even more dangerous when one of the cars must swing wide to avoid pedestrians or bicyclists. The patchwork is poor and much of it has broken away. I have been a supporter of town budgets and our schools for years; however, I also hope that action will be taken to address this infrastructure problem before there is a serious accident.

Does anyone know if these are even being read by anyone at Town Hall & if so who or what Department? I called Public Works and the individual I spoke to had no knowledge of this web site.

It is good that you contacted them, as they are now aware. I have read about this and heard about it on the radio.

West Hartford Dept. of Public Works is a public watcher and currently receives email notifications for issues posted in town.

To Zak, I Spoke with the Public Works manager today @ 3:30 PM, he had no knowledge of your site & knows of no one on his staff or elsewhere employed by the Town that would follow or respond to posted issues. He suggests a call be made.

Thanks for making that call. There must have been an error in the contact info that we had for the town. I went to the town's website, found the email contacts provided by the Public Works Dept, and added them to this watch area. Now they'll receive these updates.

I come at this from a different perspective -- although I agree with all comments posted above, I think that paying the amount of taxes that we pay CONFIRMS that that there should not be these types of issues to constantly and repeatedly contend with.

I certainly agree, but when $'s are tight it seems that unless it is a school or center of town issue we can pretty much forget it. It (our secondary roads) will get progressively worse and I doubt the necessary funds are available to make the necessary improvements.

Well, almost 2 months have past since this was started (6/21) and some 26 others think something should be done. I guess we need to move closer to the center or live on a major thoroughfare where all is "gleaming" and well maintained.
Perhaps we should forward this page to the Mayor and other council members.

I had been thinking the same thing, as swerving vehicles continue to cross the center lines to avoid potholes. Perhaps there is a misperception that Hunter Drive does not carry much traffic...

Recently, I was at my dealership and the service department man asked if I lived on a bumpy street. Curious and knowing that I did but wasnt going to admit it outright, I asked why? He said because I broke a front stabilizer on my SUV and severe bumps/potholes will do the trick nicely. Great - I drive up and down Hunter a million times a day. Can I send the bill to the WeHa DPW?

It is PARTIALLY fixed. 1/3 of Hunter Drive was finally repaved -- 15 months after this post.
Unfortunately they stopped 1/3 of the way up, and patched the rest of the street. The patching is still rough, and we still go to the middle of the road(crossing yellow line, to avoid this. it is still dangerous.

But after 15 months, I'm ready to call a truce - grateful for the first part completed.
