A friend has a fractured jaw having hit the hole and been tossed from her bicycle

I have personally witnessed 4 bike accidents due to this groove.

From an engineering standpoint, I am sure that there is some flexible compound that can fill the hole without compromising the expansion of the joint. Right now, they are deep enough that when they narrow, they actually lock the frame of the wheel inside them, bringing the bicycle to a sudden halt, and sending the rider flying over the handlebars. Please please look into ways to accomodate bicycles on this street.

Having bike lanes is great, but they must be safe. Please take action quickly to correct the problem before more bikers are hurt.

When can we get these joints fixed?

We shouldnt have to vote to get the city to fix something ! Just get it fixed! You have been informed several times. Please, dont wait till someone DIES to fix the problem.

Really? Why should people have to come to this forum and post a comment to ask the COH to fix this problem. Just do it!

A friend of mine was hurt by the crack on this road, please fix immediately!

This is a dangerous location that has already resulted in several people being seriously injured and it needs to be fixed now!

My friend was thrown from her bike and seriously injured. Thank goodness she wasn't hit by a car when lying on the pavement. Fix this now!

This is a very dangerous situation, from all the cyclists in Houston, please fix this location now!!!!

There are many areas around the City where there are cracks and heaved roads and sidwalks that can hurt bicycles and wheelchairs or scooters. I know of this and another area where the sidewalk has heaved up and the utility grate has been raised up along with the sidewalk. This is near the corner of Holly Hall and Cambridge near Reliant Park. I know of areas of Houston that don't even have sidewalks.

Hey Rachyl, If you know of other areas that need attention, please use the button in the upper right side to Report an Issue or call 311. This thread is about one particular place on Waugh. Obviously there are far too many cracks for the city to keep up with. Calling 311 or using this forum lets the city know which ones need more urgent attention. As for sidewalks, did you know that it's illegal to ride a bike on a sidewalk in the City of Houston within a business district (less than 300 feet from a business)? Unless you're in a residential area, you're required to use streets or designated bike paths to ride a bicycle. This is one reason we need the city to maintain the streets, bike lanes, etc. for the safety of cyclists as well as motor vehicles.

A fellow cyclist posted the picture this afternoon on my bike group's page. It's good to see the city reacted to the numerous 311 calls made by my bike group. Thanks to www.seeclickfix.com, we were able to vote to increase the attention from the city as well. Another happy day in HTX :-)
