I'd love this if if were to happen. The first step is to contact the property owner that owns the Publix shopping center involved and get them to agree to this.

How foolish it was to remove the left turn arrow on Chamblee-Dunwoody turning left out of Publix at the Parkway intersection. It was installed, paid for and worked well, and was removed after Dunwoody became a city. We badly need that turn arrow. It is dangerous the way it is and never should have been removed.

The city could easily install signs saying no left turn from Chamblee Dunwoody into Publix and no left turn exiting Publix. Since it is illegal to impede the flow of traffic, the city could put signs up not to yield to traffic turning right out of Publix. And I agree with Carol, it was so stupid of the City to remove the left turn arrow on the traffic light out of Publix at the Parkway intersection.

I like the idea of clossing the entrance/exit from Publix to Chamblee -Dunwoody. But along with that the left turn signal should be reinstalled at Chamblee-Dunwoody and Dunwoody Village Parkway and the traffic pattern changed in the Publix Parking area to accommadate a new flow pattern that would be compatable with the changes recommended. It was foolish to remove a perfectly good working left turn signal there in the first place. Good luck on getting either done.

I agree that the left signal should come back and hope with the redo of the parkway it is part of the plan. The simplest solution is not to close the entrance/exit to the shopping center, but to install a concrete island that only allows right turns into and out of the center. Removing the left turners that hang out in the middle turn lane frees it up for the others that need to use it with no other option. Center drive there has only one way in and out and is in direct conflict with the shopping center exit...

Based on the comments on this issue, the city has reviewed over 50 accidents that occurred on this segment of Chamblee Dunwoody Road in the last five years. There was one accident involving a left turning car from Dunwoody Village Parkway in two years prior to the left turn arrow being removed and there has been one similar type accident in the three years since the change was made. The left turn arrow was removed to improve traffic flow on Chamblee Dunwoody Road and does not appear to have affected the safety of the intersection.

In the same five year period there have been three accidents related to left turns out of the Publix driveway with none occurring in the last three years. The accident rate at Publix is comparable to the accident rate at other driveways on the corridor and does not warrant restricting the access to the property at this time.

Does the city of Dunwoody have no control ovwe the exit from Publix onto Chamblee-Dunwoody where there is no traffic light? There should under no circumstances be left turns permitted from this exit, and traffic on Chamblee-Dunwoody that stops to allow exit from this location should be ticketed for impeding the flow of traffic on Chamblee-Dunwoody. What has happened over time is that traffic on Chamblee-Dunwoody has decided that there is a stop sign at this exit and allow people to disrupt the flow of traffic on Chamblee-Dunwoody for Publix shoppers. Publix shoppers could do as I do and go to the stop light to exit Publix' property.
