This RR crossing has been terrible for way too long. I talked to a RR worker two days ago and he said to call the phone # posted on the crossing gate (that will be next). He also said to call the Macomb County Road Comm.
In the many years I've been driving I've seen this crossing "fixed" just a couple of times but it never lasts very long, a few weeks at best. The tracks there a owned by Canadian National RR, it looks like they don't care what the crossing is like. The crossing on Hubbard needed work too.
The Road Commission has no jurisdiction over the crossings and are not permitted to perform any maintenance on the tracks, so I'm not sure why the RR worker would tell you why to call us. I see that Becky from Mt. Clemens Public Works has commented that CN RR will be repairs crossings at Elizabeth, Hubbard, and Church, but we have not been notified of these repairs.
The tracks are fine. It's the road and those old boards in the road that are all messed up. And why that RR worker tell me to call the Road Commission, well, It's probably because they're the Roooooad Commission.
I did call the # posted on the crossing gate and talked to CNN in Montreal. The response I received was "They'll get in touch with the Yard Manager to see what he thinks". Judging by the crossings condition, Dah, we can already see what he thinks.
Just another thought on the Road Commission's last post - if there's no since in calling you about the repair of that crossing, then why would CNN notify you of them. Obviuosly the Road Commission has more pull than any one of us "We the People", whom your a servant of.
Thank You Becky for at least trying.
Maybe the squeaky train wheel will get some grease.
The crossing that is under CN RR jurisdiction includes the road underneath the railroad. The Road Commission is not permitted to perform any work on the road under or next to the tracks within CN's jurisdiction.
According to the information posted previously by Becky, CN has already scheduled the repair for this location.
The RR company must at least notify us of the repairs they make so that we can arrange for the signage needed for the road to be closed when they begin work. They normally come in for a permit less than a week before they begin work, sometimes even the day before. We have asked CN RR for a schedule of their repairs, but have yet to receive one.
I hope this information is more helpful. You are welcome to contact the County Highway Engineer directly at 586.463.8671 if you would like to discuss this further.
