folks yes we all want it fixed but it wont becasue of the train and everyday use the landscape is to dense to try an do anything it wont get u anywhere on here.
If people would drive through 2 by 2, it would move a little faster, but then you need to let cars out at Clover Mill, There is room to put in a right turn lane, but instead, drivers are forbidden to turn right on red from the breakdown lane. A right turn lane would help immensely. Sitting on that hill in icy weather is dangerous.
My husband just questioned this past week what was up with the new 2 by 2 drive through. I said I also had noticed an increase but assumed it was just new (rude) drivers to the Boot Rd. tunnels. The overgrown bamboo before the tunnels are also a hazzard.
There is absolutely no reason the 'forbidden' right lane shoulder at Quarry and Boot road should not be a "right turn lane only". Give me a break! Whose dumb idea was that?
The person responsible for the re-design of Quarry and Boot Road is the Township Engineer. Find out what township and call and ask for the engineer's email address.
RU KIDDING: What were the rest of us thinking? I think you nailed it! and so well articulated. I feel much better being stuck in that traffic knowing that the non-existent truck in front of me can do me no harm.
There needs to be SOME sort of signing because letting people wing it just isn't working. I saw a lady in a Mercedes blow through the tunnel without even braking a while back. I think the person already in the tunnel, coming toward her, about had a heart attack.
People need to think outside the box, and stop going through 1 car at a time. It's much more efficient to let 3 or 4 through, but I guess many people don't want to "get screwed" by the 5th driver trying to squeeze through. Relax! Whether you have to wait for 2, 3, or 4 cars to clear the tunnel, the wait isn't much more. The big wait is for the stopping and starting of the 1st car through. (Same with the narrow bridge on Lloyd Ave north of PEnnsylvania Ave in Downingtown.)
I am very careful when I approach this tunnel. I think most people believe they should alternate one at a time. The lady in the Mercedes could have killed someone. We are all too much in a hurry. By the way, did you know that both of the Boot Road tunnels are historical monuments?
Nothing is in the making as far as I know. I did write to Rep. Schroder a while ago about the single tunnel on Boot road as well as the tunnel on RT. 322. He forwarded it to the state, but Amtrack is the one responsible for them.
A traffic light set up this way would be good. A set of sensors on either side to detect traffic. The control box would/could count 3 vehicles then turn the signal red, then green on the other side and do the same there after 3 vehicles pass. When no vehicles are detected in either direction both side would get a red light. The first to go over the sensor (at the white line on the road) would get the green light to go. In the case of only one vehicle on either side of the bridge the timer for the light could be set to 5-7 seconds of no second vehicle crossing the sensor the light would change. This all can be done now. No great technology, just simple traffic control done nowadays. But makes for a safer drive.
