I am hoping that the OPD or any administrators from Oakland High can provide some oversight to the surrounding neighborhood. Recently I have begun to see more students loitering on the steps at E 33rd throughout the school day, and they leave the area trashed. Just earlier today by chance, I walked near an area where some students had recently been smoking and I noticed smoke coming from a pile of dried brush just off the stairway. I luckily was able to put out the fire before it could spread through the dry shrubbery and threaten the surrounding homes. The litter was one thing, but the potential fire was the breaking point. My plea is that OPD and/or Oakland High can patrol the neighborhoods around the school with frequency so we can avoid greater problems in the future.
