Thank you for reporting your concern.
Please allow me to explain the complaint process so you have a better idea of what happens when a complaint is received by this office. The majority of the inspectors work is complaint based. Approximately 24 hours after a complaint is entered for an address, a work order is created and printed for the inspector to investigate.
Unfortunately our ability to provide swift service is dependent upon the complainant's ability to provide an address or directional intersection corners (SE, SW, NE, NW) for the complaint. Since those were not provided, the complaint was forwarded to a code inspector. The code inspector will put it into their schedule to drive the area and attempt to locate addresses for the complaint. Once the inspector has that information, they will return to the office and input the complaint and address into the system. The computer then generates a letter which is sent to the property owner and occupant alerting them of the issue. Forty-eight to seventy-two hours later, the inspector returns to the property to see if the issue has been corrected. If it has not been corrected, the inspector issues orders for another City department to take care of the issue, wherein the property owner is charged a fee. Please understand the process will take time if the inspector has to first go out to obtain the addresses.
For example, should someone make a complaint about a property not shoveling/mowing and an address is provided, a letter is automatically generated by the computer and is mailed the same day (if the complaint is entered before 2:00pm) or the following day (if entered after 2:00pm). If an address is not provided, the information is entered into the system where a work order is created 48-72 hours later for the inspector to investigate, upon which time the inspector drives around the area described and obtains addresses. Once the inspector returns to the office the following morning, the information is entered into the system and a letter is automatically generated that afternoon. Forty-eight to seventy-two hours later, the inspector returns to the property to see if the issue has been corrected. If it has not been corrected, the inspector issues orders for another City department to take care of the issue (shovel/salt/sand/mow the grass), wherein the property owner is charged a fee.
