Put Mass transit lines all around the metro Detroit area and problem is solved by taking drivers off the road and into rail cars.

the right of way is for the traffic off Delco first. People turning left on michigan turn around have many signs posting this..."LEFT TURN TO YEILD FOR TRAFFIC" it's the idiots that cant read that are causing the problems!!!!!

I agree with above, the design of this is a nightmare. Hardly anyone realizes that left turn is to YIELD on green. If you DO follow the law & wait the people behind you start flipping out.

The easiest fix would be dedicated lights i.e. one side gets green while other is red and vice versa. Why green on both sides at the same time? Terrible terrible planning.

is the road commission really out there..seems like they are not paying attension come on guy's lets get this fixed or at least comment on this,we don't even know if you're out there and hearing us...i hope you aren't the same crew that puts down the asphalt on the road...three truck drivers and one man with a shovel, cause his job will be there forever, we know what that means no light fix!!!

It's amazing how brilliant our road planner's are. They should have to drive in the messes they create.

This problem also exists at several other 3-way intersections on Hall Road. However, due to the heavy traffic, especially during the Holiday season, I'm not sure adding a third light cycle and making cars wait longer to turn is an appropriate answer. Signs were put up that say "Left Turn Yield on Green" to clarify the right-of-way, but people still ignore them and I have seen several near misses. Either the lights need to be changed or the police need to be out there raking in some fines. Maybe some traffic circles would help...

First we need to know who has the right of way, the cars turning right and going east or the people turning left to go east...Lets go MDOT and get this fixed, 7 months to study traffic patterns..Are you guys sleeping????

brown292bare....If you don't know who has the right of way then you need to turn in your drivers license.

This is a terrible intersection because if you wait because you don't have the right of way, traffic gets backed up in all directions including out of the turn lanes onto 59. It works best if people take turns, but that isn't the way it is supposed to work. Even when there isn't a lot of traffic this isn't an ideal intersection, and when it's busy which is a lot it backups 59 and especially the shopping center area north of 59. I live near here and often have to use this intersection, and it sometimes takes me 15 minutes to get through it.

brownbare: While I agree w/ many of your statements I unfortunately I have to disagree with you on this one. There are conflicting laws regarding right of way, specifically on Hall Road/M-59. The problem comes into play when you have drivers exiting private roads onto public ones.

MCL 257.652. Stopping before entering or crossing highway from alley, private road, or driveway; violation as civil infraction.
(1) The driver of a vehicle about to enter or cross a highway from an alley, private road, or driveway shall come to a full stop before entering the highway and shall yield right of way to vehicles approaching on the highway.

There are a couple areas (Best Buy plaza, Old Navy/Micheal's plaza) on Hall road where signage indicating those exiting a shopping center (making a "right") onto Hall road have the right of way over those already in a Hall road turnabout who are making a "left". That is in direct conflict with the above ordinance, as shopping centers are technically private driveways and as such those already on Hall road in a turnaround making a left have the right of way. But then there is also the law that drivers making a left yield to oncoming traffic.

Driving through those areas (which I heartily avoid lol) it's pretty obvious that no one knows who has the right of way.

To avoid all of this confusion as to who has the right of way, I still maintain the best solution is my original suggestion, to have only eastbound and westbound Hall Road go at one time, then have only northbound Delco (to eastbound Hall) go (with everyone else stopped), THEN to have those exiting the shopping center (aka southbound Utica Park Place) go (with everyone else stopped). Should avoid the confusion and make traffic flow much safer...just sayin'.

If you do that then you'll have the usual complainers whining 'why do I have to sit at the light when no one is coming?"

Carol~I completely agree with you, delayed lights should be set there giving green lights to one side, red to the other and so forth. Never ever understood why it wasn't set up like that in the first place when you have multiple entrances/exits at the same point at the road.

We have "intelligent" everything else .... why not traffic signals? EVERY traffic signal should give all drivers sufficent time to turn or go through the light - and they should be "intelligent" enough to see that if there are no cars approaching or sitting at the light, then it's unnecessary to make others ways sit at a red light where there's no traffic (where/when applicable). Macomb County and Michigan, in general, are always the last to get anything new in technology. We have the lamest roads in the nation.

It's time to put some young people in the commissioners seats (and heads of departments) - I, for one, am sick of all these old fogies we have in office and on the boards and commissions who are so uneducated about current technologies, and for what they do manage to educate themselves about, don't push for funds to bring this county up-to-date and into this century.

No - instead, they're gonna waste their time and energies helping some people find funding - to waste thousands and thousands of dollars for yet another war/veteran memorial that we DON'T NEED, instead of modernizing our county. Who cares about another dumb statue? I care about veterans, but people need to be wise and frugal in these times - there are MANY more issues and conserns to worry about (and raise money for) other than another statue "memorial." Do something in veterans' names with the money, instead of erecting a statue that does nothing for anyone.

@ Resident.......The first thing we need is "intelligent drivers". That would solve a lot of problems.

The cars turning right have the "right" of way. So the cars turning right off Delco heading East on M-59 have the right of way.
Same situation down M-59 by Schoenherr with the cars exiting by DSW turning right while the cars doing the Michigan left to go south on Schoenherr think they can just cut these cars off exiting DSW shopping center.
