The three worst section of the trail are, in order of damage: between Geary and Clement, between Lake and California, and between Cabrillo and Fulton.

While it is great that the SFPD patrols the trail, it would be great if they would consider foot, mounted, or bike patrols to lessen the negative impacts. My sense is that the trail damage discourages recreational use, which then creates a gap filled by anti-social uses, which increases the need for patrols: a non-virtuous circle.

The only circumstance that has changed here is the rainy season has passed. I would encourage rec and park to consider hardening these trail sections for next winter and making irrigation system repairs.

A current clean-up project at the north end of the Calif-Clement block raises an additional, safety question about these trails. The north entrance to the block is now very inviting and a direct connection from the trail on the Funston Ave block - if you want to cross 4+ lanes of traffic on Calif St with no crosswalk, no markings, no warnings. Apparently the City expects walkers, runners, bicyclists to divert to the corner with Park Presidio, or cross Funston to the east side of the street where there is a crosswalk and then cross back to the trail area. Accidents waiting to happen. We've been talking about trail maintenance and crossing safety for years. Maybe something could be done this time?

This issue is still extant. The pathway on the east side at Anza is particularly bad right now. If motor vehicles are going to be driving on this pathway, one needs to do some bit of engineering to support that. I would suggest dumping a load of stone in problem areas and compacting.

Also, I second meroden on the issue of crosswalk and pedestrian safety measures. Ideally some signage to warn of a mid-block crossing and painting the actual crossing would be greatly appreciated.

Same issue on 100-199 block of PPB - sprinkler soak the path and then trucks etc go thru there so ruts get deep. Dangerous for bikes who use the pathway as well as walkers/joggers. People still cross mid-block, weaving around traffic on Calif St

While it is a drought year so one can't be sure. I know the new gardener has been working on the irrigation leaks.
