Description
The bike lane all along Grand Ave is a disaster. Traffic is backed up all along upper Grand and I rarely if ever see anyone biking. In addition the loss of a lane backs up the traffic on Mandana trying to turn left onto Grand. PLEASE GED RID OF THE BIKE LSNE IN ITS ENTIRETY.

I see bikes heading up and down Grand all the time. The changes have also slowed traffic to a normal pace for a business district instead of people driving like Grand is an expressway. There are also many uncontrolled crosswalks between Mandana and Oakland Avenue that are much safer for pedestrians.
The Mandana/Grand intersection can be an issue at times, but it generally seems to be traffic that blows a red, then gridlocks the intersection is the big culprit. Retiming the Elwood light so it synced better with the Mandana light would also help.

I agree with LG, and would add that new center turn lanes also make it easier for drivers to make turns into driveways or parking spots, without holding up traffic behind them or risking getting rear ended. The focus might be on bike lanes, but in reality Grand Ave was a bike, pedestrian, and driver safety improvement project.
Instead of "rip it out" I encourage folks to focus on ways to tweak the design to address some of these concerns, such as the signal timing that LG mentioned. Removing the bike infrastructure won't mean that people won't bike there, it will just make them less safe when they do so, while also decreasing safety for pedestrians and drivers as well. I don't think that is a reasonable approach.
