Another factor to consider is that the trash can is too far away from the bulletin board and the bustop. If it were closer to the location where trash is discarded (either from bulletin board pinning or while waiting for the bus), there would be less trash.

Might it not be better to offer the staff there a few minutes of help instead of taking those minutes to type in a complaint? These are people there to serve the families of very sick children & are surely deserving of that.

Trash on the street is a part of urban life. I own a business in this neighborhood, and unfortunately there is a shortage of public trash cans which leads some people to drop trash on the ground, which then blows around. It's ridiculous for you or anyone to point a finger at The Ronald McDonald house and staff. They are not neglectful, it is not their garbage, and as the previous poster said, they are quite busy with more important issues like housing and feeding families of very ill children.

Thank you, CherylVT! We find it very difficult to keep up with the amount of garbage that is thrown or blown into our yard and the perimeter of the fence along Pearl Street and South Winooski Avenue. Over the course of a year, we have several groups and individuals that clean up our yard and the surrounding area. However, clearly this is not enough. It would be a wonderful gift to the Ronald McDonald House and guests staying at the House during their time of need to see members of the community helping to keep us neat and tidy.

I think all of our downtown institutions need to step up when confronting Burlington's trash problem. We all need to do our part (individuals, nonprofits, business and government). Ronald McDonald has an incredible mission. Now, our collective civic challenge is to present ourselves in a way that's commensurate with our idealism and philanthropy.

The photo that is posted shows that the trash is on the sidewalk side of the fence, not in the RMH yard. It's beyond me that someone would use this forum as an attack on the RMH and the way they present themselves as an organization. How, do tell, are they supposed to control the litter from pedestrians, bulletin boards and bus stops. Seriously? Instead of being inside helping the family who is going through the horrible reality of caring for an ill child, should RMH post their staff outside the house to make sure no trash blows against their fence? This complaint is unbelievable.

My staff and I would like to volunteer once a week to walk over on our lunch break to check in on the RMHC. Cynthea (Cynthea's Spa on Church Street).

Burlington-Can we please have public trash cans? Church st. is covered, but we really need a more comprehensive approach from our city for public trash. We had more public trash cans that covered high pedestrian areas out side of Church St. Our city deserves this. Our population is only growing and to expect all homeowners, non profits and business to monitor more than once daily is unreasonable and not practical. I monitor my property daily, but I live across from a busy store. It's soon that we as a city need to start talking about a more robust sanitation plan that addresses all city residents

I so agree with Jodi and Kristen and others. Who ever posted that complaint re: litter (most seems to be on the on the OTHER side of the RMH property), should be using that time to help pick up and keep the street tidy so that RMH staff can focus on their incredibly important job. I know when recycling day happens in our neighborhood, much stuff blows out of the blue bins. I then take a moment to pick stuff up. We can all do our part. And while said complainers are there picking up trash anyway, why not drop off a plate of freshly baked cookies, soup or something for those families @ RMH faced with devastating illness? Honestly.
