Description
I saw this on Friday and know this signal on Main has been discussed here before due to it's horrid timing and lack of reason to exist.
I see in this photo it is either being repaired/reprogrammed or... long shot, removed. I realize it's a state road but the City of Ansonia has been aware of this signal's issues and has had plenty of time to work with the state.
If you are traveling down main from Target to Spector Furniture, this signal turns red the moment the one at Big Y turns green stopping traffic that was just at a red light AGAIN a few hundred feet later.
It also serves no purpose as the road next to Spector is one-way and has been forever and the exit to Bank of America is one way. Cars exiting BofA have a clear view exiting and no traffic can also turn left or right onto the street next to Spector. This signal just stops Main Street traffic for no known reason as there is signal just before and after it at intersections where one is needed.

The best way to determine the status and plan for a signal in your town is to check with the Local Traffic Authority who is often the Chief of Police or a senior officer trained in traffic issues. The LTA handles the status of both state and local signals and should be able to give you accurate information.

I understand once upon a time a long long time ago Tremont Street in Ansonia used to be two way. I'm sure Main Street was unpaved long long ago also.
If Tremont is now one way and the signal is of no use other than letting people out of private bank parking lot the State should have been contacted to review it.
Main Street will not become a "speedway". There is a signal at Big Y and another a block down near where Antonio's was. If someone is able to little over a block between signals into a speedway ... love to meet them.
Anyone looking for a speedway in downtown Ansonia already has East Main which has no signals, one stop sign and is a wonderful way to route yourself around Downtown Ansonia barely having to pause.
