Contractor is bypass pumping sanitary sewer from manhole near your rear yard on weekdays during the day and allowing gravity flow at night and on weekends. The sanitary manhole access points allow more sewer gas to escape than when the manhole lids are fully closed especially with low winds as we had on the weekend, odors were probably more noticeable. The contractor is replacing and upgrading the existing 21-inch sanitary main that parallels the creek as a preventive maintenance measure prior to building the vertical channel walls for Johnson County Wastewater in conjunction with the drainage project. The odor you experienced is routine during these types of operations. The contractor is trying to complete this work quickly. Our project inspector will keep an eye on these operations to confirm nothing out of the ordinary is occurring.
