My neighbor and I have also asked the city to put speed bumps at the intersection of Curry Drive and Boulevard on both sides of the road to slow down speeders cutting thru from Clinton Road , etc. A digital speed sign was put up and they lost the info and put up another one. That one has not worked in over a week . Where can we bring you the animals and eventually the humans that will be hurt in this area ? We have been communicating about this for MANY MONTHS and are absolutely appalled at the no response we get from ya'll! Would somebody please get off their cell phone, etc. and go to work about this! This problem, and me as well as my neighbors, are not going away and we will do whatever it takes to gets some results.

Why don't we begin by very quickly installing signage with lower speed limits, signage indicating streets are not for thru traffic, and then performing ongoing and persistent law enforcement.

Super speeders are flying down Twin Pines Drive most coming from Jones County. I came so close to getting hit by a car while walking my dog. The car must have been driving 60 miles an hour at least . This issue is very serious and the people of Shirley Hills are sick and tired of feeling unsafe.

Yes, Twin Pines is also very bad. More and more people are using this neighborhood as a cut through to Jones county. It would be a big deal if they drove slowly but they don't. We bought our home on Nottingham Dr two years ago and the traffic volume has doubled. The neighborhood needs a drop in speed to 20-25 and speed bumps on Nottingham and Twin pines to deter people from using it as a cut through!

Initial Criteria
1. The street under consideration shall be classified as a local, residential street, with a posted speed of 25 mph.
2. The street or section of the street being considered shall be a minimum of 1,000 feet long and a minimum street width of 21 feet; cul-de-sacs will not be considered for speeds tables.
3. The street shall minimum average daily traffic of five hundred (500) vehicles day.
4. The eighty-fifth (85th) percentile is the indicator used to determine the maximum, reasonable speed by performing a traffic study. If the study indicates that the 85th percentile is, at least, 11 miles per hour over the posted 25 mph speed limit, the petition process may begin at 70 percent.

**The 85th percentile speed is the speed is the speed at or below which 85 percent of motorist drive on a given road, unaffected by slower traffic or poor weather. This speed indicates the speed that most motorists on the road consider safe and reasonable under ideal conditions. It is a good guideline for the appropriate speed limit for that road. **

If approved the installation, maintenance, repair, and removal of speed tables must be PRIVATELY FUNDED.

I wish to state the road study should be roads study. Nottingham and Twin Pines

At present the section of Nottingham Drive in question is sign posted at 35mph, not 25mph. The posted speed limit should be lowered immediately to bring it ito the same limit as surrounding streets. Further, the heaviest traffic is during the morning and evening work "rush hour", and on Friday at the lunch hour also. Doing a study is all well and good, however, regardless of the total traffic volume and the percentile exceeding the presently posted speed limit, the bottom line is that through traffic on Nottingham Drive and surrounding feeder streets by out of county drivers has created a very significant traffic hazard for those of us city-county residents who live in the area. The speed limit signs should be changed immediately from 35mph to 25mph, No Thru Traffic signs should also be posted, and intensive law enforcement efforts to apprehend violators should be initiated and continued until the problem abates.

Upon review of the work order submitted. Director N. Floyd stated Nottingham Drive is a collective street which collect surrounding residential traffic. Typically, speed humps are not placed on collective streets with speeds of 35 mph. We will conduct a 85% speed study to see if 35 mph is appropriate for this road. We will make recommendations with the results of this study,

Thank you for the side step, have YOU contacted the police to inform them of this multi tax payer concern. The last lip service we received on this score was a squad car parked on Nottingham mid day. The rush hour going & coming HAS not been addressed. Children have to cross this street for school. I live on Twin Pines and the speeding CONTINUES.

CPrice - I assume Nottingham Drive was designated a "collective street" many years ago, when there was little if any development beyond the immediate Shirley Hills neighborhood. The problems we are experiencing today is due to the increased traffic volume from BEYOND the surrounding residential area. Drivers from Jones Co. and elsewhere, frustrated with traffic conditions on Grey Hwy and it's feeder roads are seeking alternatives to reaching the City of Macon and the interstates. As a result , these drivers are now travelling residential Nottingham Drive at high speeds, after routing through Twin Pines Drive, Jackson Springs Road Boulevard, Curry Road, etc.

The basic premise that 11mph over the posted speed limit on residential is acceptable to Macon-Bibb officials is, at best, ludicrous! This tacit acceptance of speeding in Macon-Bibb has resulted in a frighteningly dangerous situation, both in Shirley Hills and elsewhere - and now the present administration wants to add bicycles to the mix!! Is the county now willing to accept the financial liability that will result when residents are killed by speeders driving, with the county's approval, over the speed limit.

Nottingham Drive, Twin Pines Drive and other neighborhood roads noted in this message trail need to be closed to through traffic from outside the neighborhood, roads such as Nottingham Drive need to be redesignated as a local neighborhood street, the speed limit must decreased to 25mph, and speed calming devices installed.

Speed limit has changed to 25mph and permeant speed awareness signs has been installed. We continue to monitor this area for other options.
