Description
PLEASE put in a turn lane and stop the requirement to cross Gandy to turn left onto it. There's plenty of room for one and all these selfish idiots illegally turning left keep blocking up traffic. I've seen an officer there a couple times and people are good until they're gone. These people are fully aware, so just put in the turn lane and save us all the frustration.

This response assumes that this complaint is about the temporary north bound 94th Ave to westbound Gandy movement. North bound drivers on 94th Ave are to cross the temporary Gandy pavement to get to the 94th Ave and 16th St intersection, execute a left turn at the intersection, and then merge into westbound Gandy traffic. Instead drivers are stopping at the temporary Gandy pavement to make an illegal left turn in spite of the signage declaring “no left turn”. Construction of the 94th Ave overpass is nearing completion. When the overpass is complete the Department’s contractor will shift traffic from the temporary ground level Gandy pavement to the Gandy overpass over 94th Ave. After moving traffic, the temporary at-grade pavement will be removed eliminating this temporary situation. This traffic move is expected, pending the impacts of weather and suppliers, by Christmas 2016. The reason a left turn lane was not included in the original temporary design is due to safety because adequate clear zones and sight lines cannot be achieved in order to safely make a left turn. Thank you for your patience as we improve the roadways in our community and we ask for your continuing patience throughout the remaining construction. The Department and City of St Petersburg regularly work with local law enforcement to enforce the traffic laws and rules in this area.
Sincerely, Hank
