You'd be surprised. There have been many times where I've driven down that new longer ramp, when another driver hangs in the furthest right lane until the absolute end, then cuts left sharply in front of me at the last second. Every other ramp onto an interstate has a "Right Lane Ends" or "Merge" sign when the ramp is coming to an end-- Why doesn't this one?
I assume the signage will not be addressed until the bridge construction is complete. You'll probably have to wait until next year when the construction is complete.
This is a simple issue which has still not been addressed. As the reconstruction of the Route 7 bridge nears the final stretch, I hope that a "Right Lane Ends" sign is finally installed at this location soon!
A sign request was probably put into the queue. It could easily be months before someone looks at it the request let alone decides on how to act on it.
If the requested sign is not shown to reduce the number of injuries or deaths by a significant amount it will be flagged as low priority and someone will get to it when they have a chance.
I just don't understand why the Merge sign which was originally there was taken down in the first place. The DOT or whoever is responsible, replaced virtually every other sign along that stretch in preparation for the new SPUI bridge and auxiliary lanes, why was this one removed?!?!
Almost every time I come down off that ramp, there's always some driver who stays in the furthest right lane, thinking it is going to continue, then cuts inches in front of me at the last possible second.
And what's worse is the amount of impatient drivers who try to cut around people on the left side, over the SOLID white line where the ramp meets the Northway, causing and even more dangerous situation!
People are still getting confused because they still can't figure out the new configuration of the lengthened ramps between Exits 5 and 6, and furiously weave between the lanes because they have no clue the lane is coming to an end and that they are required to merge into the actual travel lanes of the Northway.
Still no sign here! The new SPUI interchange has been operating for about a year now, and still no sign has been placed at this location saying that the lane is ending!
Well it's been 2 1/2 years! STILL no sign! STILL people jerking their steering wheel over because they don't realize the lane is ending! STILL not fixed!
Still nothing done here to fix this! Drivers still frantically weaving from the right lane into the left lane onto the Northway! Not a single MERGE sign or RIGHT LANE ENDS sign! NOTHING!!
What are you complaining about at this point? The right lane doesn't end anymore, it continues and becomes the exit lane for exit 5. Pay attention the next time you drive there.
