Sorry about this rant, but I am hot and a bit frustrated. The Sounder train broke down (it happens) and we were forced to find other transit options to downtown Seattle. The Tukwila 'transit hub' needs redundant transit options, since I found that the only bus (F line) just goes to Burien or Renton. There were no other north/south options. Please fix this as you further your project goals for transportation oriented development at this site.
Second, the walking route to the next closest bus route was unsanitary and unsafe (heading north to Fort Dent). No sidewalk on portions of east side of Interurban, dark tunnel under 405 covered with bird droppings ( thought a hobo was going to jump out from behind a column). What do all the tourists think when they make their way to Starfire events? I am an able-bodied person. Elderly and disabled would not be able to make it. This corridor needs lighting, cleaning and sidewalks. I want Tukwila to shine as much as the next guy. I request that officials walk this route to get the full experience.

My name is Brandon Miles and I am with the Mayor’s Office for the City of Tukwila. One of my primary job responsibilities is to look for ways to improve the visitor experience in the City of Tukwila. Your comments are right on point for things that need to be improved in the City of Tukwila.
With regards to transit options, I could not agree with you more. For years the City has been advocating to King County Metro and Sound Transit for improved transit options in the Southcenter area. Hopefully, as King County Metro and Sound Transit see the need they will add additional transit routes to the Southcenter area. FYI, while it does require transfers, you can take Rapid Ride F to the Transit Center along Andover Park West and transfer to Metro Route 150, which will take you to downtown Seattle or take Rapid Ride F to the Tukwila International Blvd Light Rail Station and also take light rail into downtown Seattle. Another option is to take Rapid Ride F to Renton and take Metro Route 101.
With regards to sidewalks, the City is currently working on sidewalk design for Long Acres Way and Interurban. Once installed (provided funding is secured) the sidewalks will be part of the City’s pedestrian spine, connecting the Sounder Station to the Metro Transit Center, via the Southcenter Pedestrian Bridge, which is currently under construction. This would allow someone to walk between the Sounder Station and Westfield Southcenter in between 10-15 minutes.
I’ll see if we can get some maintenance people out to clean up the bird droppings. This might be in Sound Transit or Washington State’s Highway right of way, but I’ll see what we can do. Your comments regarding what tourist think is very appropriate. Tukwila is trying to identify ways we can improve the visitor experience. A clean and safe City is something tourist should expect when visiting the City.
Walking the corridor is a great idea. I will set something up with City staff in the next couple of weeks to walk the site.
