Uneven pavement hard to see at night. Tripped and almost landed head first into pole. Wearing flat boots. Very scary- I really could have been mortally injured.

I know it doesn't seem so hard to see in the picture (with the flash), but it is hard to see (especially if you're looking up, making sure that no cars are going to turn into the crosswalk while you're crossing). The picture shows the direction I was crossing in. I was walking at pace through the crosswalk and noticed a car attempting to turn in. Once I tripped on the large depression/cut out, I couldn't get footing, because the ground right after is also bumpy and uneven (can't see it in this picture). The short pole or meter or whatever that is, is what I almost ran into (head first, still tripping). It scared me, and also scared people who were crossing from the opposite direction I was crossing in. I was not impared in any kind of way and not wearing heels or anything that would impair my ability to walk (and I know the difference between being embarrased over doing something stupid, and a true danger). I'm fit, and coordinated, and relatively careful. I'm accustomed to city life. This really could happen to anyone, and could have a terrible outcome. Just repairing the section in the crosswalk would be enough. Thanks.
