Gator bags have a small opening directly opposite the zipper. Zipping the bag around a tree creates tension that flattens the opening into a hard-to-see slit, but that's where the hose is supposed to go. A 'hole' does get created when the bag is zipped, and the tree trunk comes up through it, but it's open on both ends.

Location has been inspected. Tree is experiencing drought stress. Will monitor and see if tree needs to be replaced next growing season.
