Thank you for reporting. Issues like this should be reported as they occur to the Cambridge Police Department Non-Emergency line at 617-349-3300 so that units can be dispatched to the location at the time such issues are seen. This system is best suited to respond to service requests like potholes, street lights, rodent issues, etc. that can be assigned to staff and addressed in a timely manner.
However, we will share this concern with the appropriate departments so that this report can be taken into consideration as we study future roadway design and enforcement efforts.
If you would like to discuss this traffic situation with a staff member in more detail, please contact the Traffic Department at trafficengineering@cambridgema.gov.
While I understand your answer, I can not realistically spend 20mn on the phone every time I commute and meet multiple drivers parked in bike lanes. I mostly report occurrences here for statistics.
Until drivers are ticketed consistently, they will keep behaving like this, since they have no incentive to do better. I know things are getting done, but anecdotally I have not seen ONE person ticketed for being in the bike lane, whereas I see vehicles stopped there several times every day.
I actually do stop and call, as often as I can. I've sometimes biked a minute away after a call, and stopped to call in another truck. If everyone, literally, *EVERYONE*, did this the phones would be swamped and the message would be received pretty quickly. So please, when possible, do try to stop and call. It sucks that we're forced to play stupid games to protect our safety, but apparently the City doesn't care about cyclists, so that's all we can do.
